An example of a true 'Alim

Upon Refuting The Mufti Of Syria In A Friday Speech, Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi Is Dismissed From His Job In Damascus.

In defence of the Prophet Muhammad, Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi delivered this past Friday a speech rebuking the Mufti of Syria, Shaykh Ahmad Hassoun, for his scandalous blasphemy against the Prophet. He also demanded that the Mufti resign and leave public service out of embarrassment and shame before his Lord Allah and the Prophet.

On Tuesday January 19, 2010, the Mufti of Syria made some very troubling remarks about the Prophet of Islam in front of an American delegation lead by the Orthodox Rabbi Marc Gopin.

The Mufti's remarks, which were published in the Jerusalem Post and aired on Israeli Army Radio, included: “If the Prophet Muhammad had asked me to deem Christians or Jews heretics, I would have deemed Muhammad himself aheretic...If Muhammad had commanded us to kill people, I would have told him hewas not a prophet...”

Shaykh al-Yaqoubi devoted his Friday speech on January 22nd to this subject refuting the Mufti and asserting the necessity to obey the Messenger of Allah in every command including the news about the Qur'an and the names of the prophets.

In his speech, Shaykh al-Yaqoubi explained, “We know that Moses and Jesus are prophets only because our Prophet Muhammad told us so. Had he told us otherwise, we would have had to believe him.” He added, “Believing in Moses and Jesus does not imply the validity of Judaism and Christianity of today.”
The speech, which lasted for 40 minutes, addressed in detail the points Mufti Hassoun made afterwards in his attempt to clarify his outrageous remarks.

What is particularly troubling about the Mufti's remarks is that according to Jerusalem Post, the Israeli Radio Army aired Mufti Hassoun's statements to encourage Palestinians to protect Jewish settlers at the illegally occupied Palestinian territories.

Shaykh al-Yaqoubi ended his speech by asking Mufti Hassoun to resign his job out of embarrassment before Allah and His Messenger and protect the dignity ofIslam and the integrity of the Ulema of Syria.

On the following day, and as a result of his speech, Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi was sacked from his job as the Friday public speaker of al-Hasan Masjid in the affluent Abu Rummaneh neighbourhood in Damascus.

Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi is a world-renowned sufi scholar, a charismatic public speaker in both Arabic and English, and well known for his encyclopaedic knowledge and powerful style of delivery. Several of his speeches, including the speech from last Friday, can be found on YouTube.

Commenting on the decision to ban him from public speaking, Shaykh Muhammad said, “This is nothing for the sake of the Beloved of Allah, our Master Muhammad. The problem now is not whether I should be back to my job, but how to stop the Mufti of Syria from deforming Islam.”

Dr. Adi Setia said:

"That's sad, but on the other hand that should make us think, especially
the economists and economics-minded amongst us (of the critical, creative
kind), that we as a community, wherever we are, should be able to
structure a grassroots civil economy (a true mu'amalah) to support
conscientious scholars-alims like Shaykh al-Yaqoubi so that they can go on
maintaining their intellectual integrity and responsibility in the public
interest, and thereby avoid being employees of governments who care
nothing for the deen or for the Ummah. We are working on the mu'amalah
civil economy in Malaysia, please pray for our success."
As for me, I believe if Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi understood the gravity of the current issue about the mis-translation of the word "Allah" by the Christians in Malaysia, I am sure he will defend it as he defended our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) againts the blasphemy of the Mufti of Syria. Some of our ulama' have turned softies notably the politico-ulama'. Lazy to do more research in understanding why we must say NO to them. Proposing a guideline is such a simplistic and naive argument what more when they start to politicize this matter as being portrayed by "confused and liberal" Little Napoleons in the Islamic party itself. This is non-sense and absurd.

thanks dik kerana memuatkan artikel ini.

sedih betul membaca. Inilah nasib pejuang kebenaran. berhadapan dgn berbagai cabaran.

Sheikh al-Yaqoubi is truly a Mukmin who really understands the true meaning of the prophethood of Muhammad.

Muslims are fond of quoting Hart's 100 most influential persons as if the Prophet Muhammad is to be compared to other individuals.

It is also when learned Priests of the Church are careless and carefree about using proper words in translations. They are doing great INJUSTICE to their follwers.
